WTO Aid for Trade Workshop on Sustainable Development and the Green Economy

On February 5, on the sidelines of the WTO Aid for Trade Workshop on Sustainable Development and the Green Economy in Geneva, Orestes Anastasia, GGGI’s Deputy Head of Office of Thought Leadership gave a presentation under the theme of “Accelerating Green Growth as the Driver for Sustainable and Inclusive Economic Development and Achieving Global Priorities.” He explained how green growth is the only option for keeping global warming below 1.5°C and helping countries achieve their Sustainable Development Goals.

GGGI’s green growth model uses practical planning and policymaking to lead to concrete action through projects, financing, and investments that address critical development challenges.

Mr. Anastasia emphasized that maintaining healthy and sustainable economic growth should be the top priority for governments when it comes to making a transition to development pathways. He continued by stating that for emerging economies, least developed economies, and small island developing states, achieving economic growth to eradicate poverty and provide decent jobs for the next generation remains high on the agenda.
