The annual Green Growth ceremony award

The country office invited all the partners of the ecosystem to review the different strategic axes of our commitment to the State of Senegal.

The ceremony was chaired by the Director of the Environment at the Ministry of the Environment, Sustainable Development and Ecological Transition which highlighted the presence and role of the country office in the department’s sectoral policy and also reviewed the main achievements of the five-year cooperation agreement. The ceremony registered the presence of hundreds of partner structures: administrations, state agencies, multi-lateral development partners, the private sector and the academic world.

The session opened with a message from the Director General of the Global Green Growth Institute, Mr. Frank Rjisberman, to reiterate and recognize the dynamism in the good execution of our mandate since the accession of Senegal as a member in 2017. He also called for increased efforts to formulate initiatives for access to climate finance as a response to the multi-faceted shocks the world is going through. Finally, he was pleased to note the diversification of thematics that has resulted in a broad network of partners who are committed to contributing to national and international climate objectives.

The country director delivered a speech to the audience, recalling the role assigned to the GGGI office in charting the way forward for green growth in Senegal. She highlighted important operational and political achievements in support of Senegal’s environment and climate policy. She also congratulated the Senegalese delegation that took part in the Conference of the Parties in Sharm-el-Sheikh, which demonstrated once again the excellent quality of our relations through the rich programme of bilateral exchanges and thematic events through which experts discussed the avenues to be explored during the next review of our partnership. To this end, she shared the broad outlines of the themes that will be implemented for access to climate finance and increased investment in adaptation on the continent, more specifically in Senegal.

In turn, the partners were invited to come back to the themes through which they work with the country office by sharing their experience and to identify perspectives for scaling up. As an interlude to all communications, all country achievements were shared through illustrative videos on our intervention in Senegal.

Before closing the session, Malle Fofana, Director of the Africa region, gave a message of encouragement and welcomed the programme’s take-off with a portfolio of projects in several sectors aligned with the objectives of the Senegalese government.
