Sustainable and Inclusive Rice value Chain workshop in Saint Louis

An inclusive forum on the rice value chain was organised by the Korean Embassy on Friday 04 March 2022 in Saint Louis.

At the invitation of His Excellency Kim Ji Joon, our organization led by the resident representative Assana Alio participated in the session chaired by the governor of the region, the director of KOICA and the general manager of KOPIA.

The objective was to evaluate the implementation of projects carried out by Korean partners in the river valley.

During the official session, the authorities recalled the important role played by the development partner in the national objective of achieving self-sufficiency in rice.

Experience has shown that introducing best agricultural practices in the valley requires rigorous monitoring of the technical itinerary, quality training for local actors and recourse to mechanisation.

The workshop was an opportunity for our organisation to meet local actors who have developed practices. The sharing of experiences allowed us to take note of the preliminary considerations to be taken into account in the framework of the solar irrigation project for climate-smart agriculture. A project cited as one of the innovative ones that will attempt to address the cost of production, reuce GHG emissions and increase yields.

An expanded technical workshop with stakeholders in the rice sector was announced to reflect on mechanisms for collaboration in the valley.
