Walter Malau

Walter has an accumulated 15 years professional experience in the Solomon Islands Public Sector accounting, financial management & reporting and auditing as an employee and consultant.  In these years, he recommended significant changes in the processes and system changes in the state-owned enterprises and the nine provincial governments.  This included among others internal revenue processes, commercial arms governance recommendations, procurements and payment systems etc.

Walter had an additional three years in the areas of operational risk management, fraud and corruption and as an independent fraud investigator.

His most recent project with the Solomon Islands Government in 2021 included undertaking a feasibility study for the Ministry of Education and provided options on whether a Student Loan Scheme (SLS) will be viable for the tertiary education sector.  This included the provision of financial options and financial analysis using NPV and IRR to make recommendations using country data and other global practices including Fiji and New Zealand SLS Models.

Walter obtained his accounting degree from the USP, Fiji and a MSc in Forensic Accounting from DMU, Leicester City, UK.
