Marthinus Corneles Wattimena

Marthinus Corneles Wattimena, or Marco, is GGGI Indonesia’s Papua Provincial Representative, based in Jayapura – Papua, Indonesia.

Marco has over 17 years of experience in conservation and local community empowerment projects, which includes managing fresh water, forest and wetland conservation programs in WWF Indonesia for the Papua Region. He has also worked with the team of Transfly Vision for Indonesia and Papua New Guinea. For community empowerment, Marco has four years of experience with traditional communities in Southern Papua.

In between management work, Marco has nine years of experience in participatory mapping, including a year in species trade monitoring as part of a program in Jayapura, and three years of cooperation with the district and provincial governments in Papua for spatial planning up until 2017. Other experiences include work in sustainable palm oil conservation program for two years in Papua and West Papua, and also serving for two years as a Coordinator at Lestari Consortium in Papua. Prior to joining GGGI, Marco was working on green growth initiatives in Indonesia with IDH.

As the Provincial Representative, Marco will work closely with the Provincial Government of Papua and other relevant stakeholders to implement green growth in Papua to ensure the preservation of its diverse flora and fauna as well as empower indigenous communities for an inclusive prosperity.
