Roundup: Development of a climate finance project pipeline for the Regional Project Execution Agency in the region of Tangier (AREP)

Tangier on June 16th , 2022 and within the framework of the GCF Readiness program “Improving Access to Climate Finance in the Regions of Morocco” initiated by the Ministry of the Interior in collaboration with the GGGI and financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF),  a capacity building workshop was held with the aim to support the AREP-TTA in the development and prioritization of a pipeline of 10 bankable, sustainable and inclusive climate finance projects . This program supports regional actors in accessing climate finance and in structuring bankable projects, in particular by aiming to:

  1. Support the selected AREP, Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceïma (AREP-TTA) in the process of prioritization and preparation of a pipeline of bankable, sustainable and inclusive climate financing projects;
  2. Strengthen private sector investment in this region.

The workshop was moderated by the Country Lead Abdelmajid Bennis and brought together 38 representatives from the public and private sectors as well as civil society.

During the workshop the experts presented the methodology for prioritizing climate project ideas and a series of work group was held for strengthening the capacities of the participants to use the tool of prioritization gride of climate projects in the region. The commitment of participants from various background (public and private sector) was very good, and they were able to prioritize and define a portfolio of bankable, sustainable and inclusive regional climate projects, in order to prepare the next stage of development of concept notes for the search for climate finance.
