NAP GCF Readiness Project Regional Familiarization Workshop Organized

December 17, 2021: GGGI -Ethiopia in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA)  facilitated a two- day regional familiarization workshop (in two rounds) in Adama, Haile Resort on December 14-15 and December 16 and 17, 2021. The major objective of the workshop was to acquaint regional level local authorities with   National Adaptation Planning (NAP ) -Green Climate Fund (GCF) readiness project.  Some 216 (50% female) participants from 10 regional states and one city administration were in attendance at the workshop.

Issues pertaining  to adaptation consideration in the updated Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) and the importance of climate information for climate change adaptation as well as NAP-ETH implementation co-ordination mechanism and operational roadmap were presented and discussed.

In addition, key outcomes of the NAP -GCF project and its integration with Environment and Social Safeguards (ESS) and gender considerations in the national adaptation planning process, Monitoring and Evaluation as well as knowledge management system development were  presented and  tabled for discussion.

From the workshop the following outcomes are successfully achieved:-

  • 216 (50% Female) NAP-ETH stakeholders have got knowledge on the similarity, distinction and alignment between NAP-ETH and NAP GCF readiness project;
  • Stakeholders gained clear understanding on the strategic outcomes of the NAP GCF readiness and identify their respective areas of collaboration;
  • Informed on the inclusion of gender and ESS in all NAP-ETH implementations;
  • Acquainted with monitoring, evaluation and learning system for the adaptation planning process and its effectiveness.

Representatives of GGGI and EPA underlined that the concerns and gaps will be addressed in collaboration with all partners and stakeholders, and thus, active participation of the regional team in any form is mandatory for the success of the project.
