Myanmar Country Planning Framework to be endorsed

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNREC) signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 9 February 2017 to advance green growth in Myanmar.

GGGI started the development of its Country Planning Framework (2019-2023) since 2017. As the first step, GGGI conducted the Green Growth Potential Assessment and the report was launched in October 2017. In August and September 2018, GGGI conducted a series of consultations with 33 Government Departments as the second step. The priorities of government departments and suggestions were integrated into the development of Country Planning Framework.

GGGI presented its draft CPF to Senior Officials of Environmental Conservation Department on 20 Dec 2018 to receive their feedback and suggestions. Besides, GGGI presented the draft CPF at meetings of Green Economy Working Group on January 16, Environment and Climate Change Working Group on January 17 and Urban and Industry Working Group on January 22, 2019.

GGGI conducted the Country Planning Framework Final Stakeholder Consultation on February 25, 2019 in Nay Pyi Taw. The Final Consultation was officiated by the Director General of Environmental Conservation Department and attended by 22 participants from 13 Key Government Departments.

The feedback and suggestions from the participants were taken into finalization of CPF. In terms of next step, the CPF will be submitted to MONREC Union Minister for his endorsement. The GGGI Myanmar Country Planning Framework is expected to be launched in second quarter of 2019.
