Launch of the ISO 50001:2011: Energy Management Systems Support Program for Uganda and Certificate Handover Ceremony

The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) of Uganda, organized a ceremony to handover the certificates for the ISO 50001 Lead Auditor Training that took place between November 26-30, 2018 at Silver Springs Hotel Bugolobi with support from GGGI. The ceremony took place on April 17, 2019, during a breakfast meeting at Kampala Serena Hotel.

During the same event, the ISO 50001: Energy Management Systems support Program for Uganda was launched. The event brought together several actors including private sector companies and government representatives. Among those who attended included, the Director of Programs for Africa and Europe at GGGI, the CEO, Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA), the CEO Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS), Director Energy Resources, MEMD, several government officials, members of the private sector and Energy Auditors.

The Director of Programs for Africa and Europe at GGGI, Dexippos Agourides presided over the event. In his speech, he strongly emphasis the importance of energy efficiency and reassured the officials about GGGI’s commitment to support the government of Uganda to achieve its NDCs and Green Growth.

ISO 50001:2011 is a requirement for all energy Auditors in Uganda according to the Energy Efficiency and Conservation bill tabled before the Parliament of Uganda, which will be signed into law.
