Korean International Development Agency – KOICA welcomes GGGI Senegal Country Representative

The Country Director of the Korean Development Agency welcomed the GGGI Senegal Country Representative accompanied by the team in charge of the agriculture component in the Senegal River Valley.

The meeting commenced with an overview presentation of the two organizations and their vision in the framework of their mandates in Senegal.

KOICA is a governmental organization in charge of granting aid in a perspective of poverty eradication and socio-economic development of developing countries.

In Senegal, the Korean agency works in the agricultural sector, particularly in the development of the rice value chain in the Senegal River Valley.

GGGI, in its agricultural portfolio of its cooperation agreement with the State of Senegal, brings added value as a development partner to agriculture in the Senegal River Valley.

The discussions focused on the exchange of Korean expertise implemented in the rice value chain. With the experience of local representation on site, the challenges of implementing agricultural practices consist of monitoring the technical itinerary and the capacity building programme for local producers.

In these two aspects, GGGI aims to integrate them as monitoring indicators for short term achievable objectives in the agronomic component of the solar irrigation projects for climate smart agriculture and the inclusive and sustainable value chain. These are the two projects on which our organizations will work with the river valley agricultural development company – SAED.

The agency has been invited to take part in the steering committee meetings and also in the joint review of the Senegal programme implementation in the coming weeks.
