Industrial Energy Audits Engagement Meeting

Vientiane Capital, Lao PDR – On August 10, 2021, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) Lao PDR Country Office together with the Department of Industry and Handicraft, Ministry of Industry and Commerce (MOIC) co-hosted the ‘Industrial Energy Audits Engagement Meeting’ at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, Vientiane Capital.  The meeting was aimed at introducing a series of energy audits which will be carried out at 25 selected factories as part of the MOIC-GGGI and Green Climate Fund (GCF) ‘Market Preparation for Industrial Energy Efficiency’ Readiness project.

The meeting was chaired by Mr. Somphong Soulivanh, Deputy Director-General of Department of Industry and Handicraft, and Mr. Christophe Assicot, Deputy Country Representative of GGGI Lao PDR team. 30 participants attended the meeting from selected factories in priority sub-sectors, including construction materials, garment, agro-processing and other.

Following presentations of the Readiness program and the energy auditing process, comments and feedbacks were collected. Participants expressed strong support for the project, as an opportunity to enhance the competitiveness of the sector. Focal point representatives from each factory were also nominated for smooth implementation of the activities.

The ‘Market Preparation for Industrial Energy Efficiency in Lao PDR’ project aims to contribute to the National Policy on Energy Efficiency which set a 10% reduction target in energy consumption by 2030.
