Green Growth as a Driver for an Environmentally Sustainable and Socially Inclusive Recovery at National and Subnational Levels

January 25, 2022 – GGGI Principal Researcher/Economist, Dr Stelios Grafakos, delivered a presentation in the International Mayors Forum 2022 to share insight on Green Growth as a Driver for an Environmentally Sustainable and Socially Inclusive Recovery at National and Subnational Levels.

During the presentation, Dr Grafakos highlighted the work of GGGI and presented 6 key elements needed to help avoid catastrophic climate change and accelerate green inclusive transformative action, including 1) Commit and Plan for NetZero emissions by 2050; 2) Price carbon in an equitable manner; 3) Invest in capacity and skills while supporting the just transition; 4) Change consumption behavior; 5) Accelerate finance in (urban) climate resilience and adaptation; and 6) Use better Metrics than GDP.

Dr. Grafakos concluded his presentation by sharing information about the Blue Skies and Net-Zero 2050 Campaign and its aim to help accelerate the transition to net-zero and raise awareness on the importance of ambitious climate action.
