GGKP Webinar: Sustainability After COVID-19 – Building Gender Equality into the Response

On May 26, GGGI Director-General, Dr. Frank Rijsberman, moderated a session in the GGKP Sustainability After COVID-19 Webinar Series on Building Gender Equality into the Response. The Green Growth Knowledge Partnership virtually held the discussion with gender experts from the Global Women’s Network for the Energy Transition (GWNET), Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Women’s Environment and Development Organization (WEDO), Women in Informal Employment: Globalizing & Organizing (WIEGO) and UN Women to discuss key questions on gender equality and COVID-19.

During the discussion, participants shared their insights on how crises and economic downturns impact women, why we need gender disaggregated data, and how gender equality and women’s empowerment support sustainability and resilience, among other feature topics.

“I think there’s no doubt that there is a gender difference in how we experience the COVID crisis,” shared Dr Rijsberman. “There are definitely opportunities to address that in a way that reduces gender inequities and helps with the agenda of women empowerment.”
