GGGI’s Upcoming Participation in COP25 in Madrid!

Friday, November 29, 2019 — A delegation from the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) will take part in the UN Climate Change Conference COP25 in Madrid on December 2-13. The delegation is led by Susanne Pedersen, GGGI’s Assistant Director-General and Head of Investment and Policy Solutions Division (IPSD) and includes senior representatives – Fenella Aouane, Principal Green Finance Specialist; Pranab Baruah, Principal Specialist and Qatar Country Representative; and Gebru Endalew, Africa and Europe Regional Lead, Climate Change Instruments, MRV and Institutional Strengthening – who will be speaking at several events on the sidelines of COP25. GGGI representatives will be presenting on subjects including inclusive green economy, NDC implementation, and climate finance, among others.

Under the Presidency of the Government of Chile, with logistical support from the Government of Spain, the overall conference will provide the platform for the next steps in the UN climate change process.

Moving towards sustainable institutional arrangements for reporting to the Convention and Paris Agreement

On Thursday, December 5, from 13:15 – 14:45, the UNFCCC is holding the side event on Moving towards sustainable institutional arrangements for reporting to the Convention and Paris Agreement. Gebru Endalew, GGGI’s Africa and Europe Regional Lead, will deliver a presentation to showcase the efforts, including best practices, experiences and lessons learned, of GGGI to support developing countries to strengthen their institutional arrangements.

Thinking Outside the Barrel: Exploring the co-benefits of Renewable Energy in Developing States

On Saturday, December 7, GGGI will take part in the Thinking Outside the Barrel: Exploring the co-benefits of Renewable Energy in Developing States event, on the sidelines of COP 25! During the event, GGGI Principal Specialist & Qatar Country Representative (OIC), Pranab Baruah, will provide his insights on the capacity of renewable energy to bring numerous additional benefits to developing states. The event will take place at 12:00-13:00 at the NDC Partnership Pavilion in Madrid, Spain.

Advancing climate change goals through multi-level governance and green cities

On December 9, from 10:30 – 11:30, Susanne Pedersen will take part in a panel discussion in the ‘Advancing climate change goals through multi-level governance and green cities’ session, at the NDC Partnership Pavilion, to provide her insights into enhancing the impact of vertical-integration for climate action.

Leveraging Readiness Support for Ambitious Programming and Investment

On Monday, December 9, from 13:15-14:45 at Room 1 of the GCF Pavilion of COP 25, GGGI’s Principal Green Finance Specialist, Fenella Aouane, will deliver a presentation and take part in a panel discussion in the Leveraging Readiness Support for Ambitious Programming and Investment event, hosted by the Green Climate Fund (GCF). During the event, participants will discuss the challenges they’ve faced during implementation of readiness support, lessons learned and/or best practices identified through implementation, and the steps taken in project design to ensure long-term sustainability.

Designing Policy Approaches Under Article 6

On Thursday, December 12, from 19:30 – 20:30, at the Nordic COP 25 Pavilions, GGGI and the Norwegian Ministry of Climate and Environment are hosting the side event on Designing Policy Approaches Under Article 6. During the event, GGGI’s Principal Green Finance Specialist, Fenella Aouane, will deliver a presentation on GGGI’s newly announced project on designing national policy approaches under the Paris Agreement Article 6, with a focus on developing policy approaches that could potentially generate Internationally Transferred Mitigation Outcomes.
