GGGI participates in the Innovate4Climate Conference 2019

From June 4-7, GGGI participated in the 2019 Innovate4Climate summit held at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre in Singapore. The event was hosted by the World Bank Group, the governments of Singapore, Spain, and Germany, as well as the IFC. Participants of the event were primarily experts within their various sectors, including climate finance, investment, and development specialists.

The goals of the conference were to enhance knowledge on securing climate investment and feature smart climate solutions. The event connected various actors in this field to collaborate on initiatives to develop low-carbon economies through innovation and investment. The three focus areas of this year’s event were sustainable cooling, battery storage, and climate-smart urban development, in order to create the foundation for impactful transitions to green societies.

For the conference, GGGI representatives hosted a booth to showcase the organization’s successful initiatives in assisting member countries with financing and implementing their climate resiliency projects. GGGI co-hosted the ‘Catalytic Finance Tools For Accelerating the Energy Transition in South East Asia,’ session to announce the Southeast Asia Clean Energy Facility (SEACEF), a vehicle to support and de-risk early-stage clean energy development.

Fenella Aouane, GGGI Green Finance Specialist, took part in a session ‘Blended Finance Solutions for Clean Energy Transition in Southeast Asia’ led by Climate Policy Initiative. With representatives from MDBs, investors and commercial banks discussions investigated the pinch points where support is especially needed and practical examples of where we have seen blended finance models deployed successfully.
