GGGI Jordan’s Participation in the National Climate Change Committee Meeting

Jordan; August 13-14, 2021 –The GGGI Jordan team participated and presented in “The National Climate Change Committee Meeting” organized by the Ministry of Environment (MoEnv) in Partnership with UNDP at Hilton Dead Sea Resort, Jordan on August 13 – 14, 2021.

The meeting commenced with opening remarks from H.E. Dr Nabil Masarweh, the Jordan Minister of Environment. During the event, the GGGI Jordan team highlighted that GGGI has been providing assistance to Jordan in the areas of Post-COVID green recovery, e-mobility, green job creation, and economic empowerment for refugees and vulnerable Jordanians.

Dr. Dereje Senshaw, GGGI Jordan Country Representative, delivered a presentation to provide an overview of GGGI’s support in Jordan, highlighting the approval and launch of the Green Growth National Action Plan 2021-2025, the Jordan Green Growth Academy (JGGA), and enhancing Jordan’s readiness to access climate finance..

Also during the event, Ms. Krystle Cooper, GGGI Senior Officer in Climate Finance, delivered a presentation to provide information on GGGI’s project on Improving Jordan’s Readiness to Access Finance for Climate Change and Green Growth in Jordan, which aims at enhancing Jordan’s Green Climate Fund Readiness by providing capacity building in addition to technical assistance to the Climate Change Directorate and National Climate Change Committee.

In addition, the team emphasized the importance of the National Climate Finance Policy adoption in Jordan, which is under development by GGGI through the GCF project.

Finally, in his closing remarks of the two-day meeting, H.E Dr. Mohammed Al Khashashneh, the Secretary-General of MoEnv thanked GGGI for its support and shared that he is looking forward to continuing cooperation with the organization to bring all efforts for the implementation of the Green Growth National Action Plan 2021-2025 (GG-NAP).
