GGGI and Mayor Renu Dahal launch the Green Sanitation Services Program in Bharatpur Metropolitan City, Nepal

On December 19, 2019, Bharatpur Metropolitan City and GGGI held a technical consultation and signing ceremony to kick start implementation of the Government of Nepal and GGGI’s new Green Sanitation Services Program. This is a two-year program, which is also being implemented in Mahalaxmi Municipality, close to the capital, Kathmandu.

During the event, which took place within the metropolitan offices of Bharatpur, GGGI introduced the Green Sanitation Services Program, and outlined technologies and related investment required to bring about sustainable sanitation practices in the city. Ward chairpersons welcomed the program recognizing the need to properly manage fecal sludge and encouraging private sector to develop and implement robust business models.

Honorable Ms. Renu Dahal, Mayor, Bharatpur Metropolitan City and Mr. Rowan Fraser, Nepal Country Representative, signed a Memorandum of Understanding. Mayor Dahal remarked that “this program comes at a crucial time as we move towards building Bharatpur into a Smart City, which cannot be completed without a holistic approach to addressing challenges in the sanitation sector.”
