Director General’s agenda of hearings on the sidelines of Dakar World Water Forum 2022

Our Director General took part in the World Water Forum. 9th edition and first in Sub-Saharan Africa. On the fringes of his visit to Senegal, he visited the Senegal River Valley, a pilot site for the solarization of pumping stations for climate-smart agriculture, as well as rice mills supported by an energy audit and capacity building project. The DG exchanged with the actors on the implementation of these projects and conversely they shared their impression on the approach of our organisation in the river valley.

Continuing his agenda, he participated as an official at the opening of the water forum in the presence of H.E. President Macky Sall, a solemn ceremony that registered eminent political personalities and experts on the subject.

The Director General then began the programme of hearings with the Minister of Environment and Sustainable Development who endorses the cooperation agreement with the State of Senegal. The department covers practically all the projects being implemented under the climate mandate.

We were then received by the Minister of Economy and Cooperation, who is a member of the steering committee of the country programme and partners in the agriculture and climate finance section.

In this area, our country office has a privileged partner, the Korean embassy, which through its agencies and organisations supports the government in agriculture, mainly in the Senegal River valley. GGGI works closely with the Korean office in Senegal on sharing experiences in this area.

Another important component of the cooperation programme, the green recovery, is being carried out with the Ministry in charge of the follow-up of the Senegal Emergent Plan on the operationalisation of the green recevery for Senegalse economy. The Minister in charge of monitoring urged our organisation to maintain the quality of the relationship and move towards the prospects of mobilizing green financing through attractive instruments for private sector participation.

The Director General was accompanied by the Director of the Africa Region Mr. Malle FOFANA and the Country Representative Ms. Assana Alio.  The hearings are part of the country portfolio review of our agreement with government partners.
