On Tuesday, August 31, 2021, GGGI Côte d’Ivoire held a validation workshop on AFOLU (Agriculture Forestry and Others Land Used) and Energy Policy briefs as part of the project: “Empowering Local Non-State Actors and Vulnerable Communities for Climate Action and Resilience in Côte d’Ivoire”. This validation workshop took place after consultation workshop and research activities done by GGGI experts.

GGGI in partnership with Open Society for West Africa (OSIWA) provide support to strengthen the capacity of civil society organizations and their influences in advocacy for the fight against climate change. The main objective of this workshop was to validate the keys findings and messages from these policy brief by CSO’s.

Dr Mallé Fofana, Country Representative, gave the opening remarks by stressing the importance of policy briefs to present research and recommendations on key sectors such as AFOLU and Energy. He insisted on the fact that these documents will provide key information to CSOs and decision makers, on climate change related issues national , international, and the ambitions for CoP26.

Dr Renaud LAPEYRE, consultant on the AFOLU sector presented his results and received comments from CSOs. This was followed by validation of the document after the inputs.

For the energy sector, Dr Youssouf KALOGO also presented the various results that were validated by CSOs after comments and observations.

The workshop brought together 35 CSO representatives working on climate change related issues and willing to support Cote d’Ivoire low carbon transition and engagement during CoP26.

CSOs have shown great interest in this process and discussed also on the dissemination of these policy brief to the different decision makers.

The workshop ended with words of thanks from the Project officer on behalf of the Country representative who engaged the CSO for the next coming advocacy activities.
