Consultation workshop on an adaptation fund concept note on climate smart agriculture in cote d’ivoire

Fund for Agricultural Research and Advisory Service (FIRCA) of Côte d’Ivoire organized a Consultation Workshop on an Adaptation Fund concept note validation on “Strengthen the resilience of smallholder farmers to the effects of climate change through the adoption of proven innovative technologies and practices.”

The objective of this event was to proceed with the consultation and validation of the first draft of the concept note.

Recognizing the challenge of financing Côte d’Ivoire’s climate change and adaptation actions, the Government of Côte d’Ivoire has initiated and implemented programs to access climate finance and mobilize investments in climate projects, including engagement with Adaptation Fund over the long- term.

GGGI works with countries around the world, building their capacity and working collaboratively on green growth policies that can impact the lives of millions. The organization partners with countries, multilateral institutions, government bodies, and private sector to help build economies that grow strongly and are more efficient and sustainable in the use of natural resources, less carbon intensive, and more resilient to climate change.

To operationalize this collaboration with Côte d’Ivoire in delivering the support for the country to transition to a greener growth, the Government of Cote d’Ivoire through FIRCA has officially requested GGGI as a Delivery Partner to the Adaptation Fund (AF) to assist in the development of a project concept note focusing on sustainable agriculture.

This concept note was developed with technical support from GGGI. This project constitutes a scaling up of a project already carried out by the National Agency for Rural Development (ANADER) in the some regions of Côte d’Ivoire.

The preliminary work carried out by a national consultant made it possible to have a provisional version of the concept note of the project.

The workshop was opened by speeches from the Executive Director of FIRCA, Mr ATSIN Yao Léon, follow by Dr. Malle FOFANA GGGI Country Representative, and leading Côte d’ivoire operations.

Presentation were made by the national consultant Nicaise AMAN on the methodology used to write the concept note and the different components and objective of the proposed project.

Following the consultant’s presentation, recommendations were made by the participants to be taken into account for the completion of the concept note before submission.

After having collected the recommendations from the participants to finalize the concept note, the FIRCA climate finance responsible invited all the stakeholders to be active in the completion of this concept note for the country to be able to mobilize enough funds of climate finance.
