Capacity building of Burkina Faso national actors on greenhouse gas inventory (GHGI) data compilation

The Permanent Secretariat of the National Council for Sustainable Development (SP/CNDD) in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) organized a training workshop on data compilation for national greenhouse gas inventories (GHGI) Several executives from the SP/CNDD attended this training held from September, 19th  to 29th,  2022. This work will contribute to strengthening the capacity of Burkina Faso to prepare complete and accurate GHGI.

The workshop was practice oriented and the thirty trainees performed the following tasks: (i) organization of collected data and its processing, (ii) compilation, analysis, interpretation of results and reporting, (iii) managing GHG data with the web-based Burkina Faso MRV platform.

The workshop was part of a three-year project to establish a national MRV system, implemented by GGGI and financed by the Swedish Embassy in Burkina Faso.  Overall, the project has strengthened the capacities of more than 500 national stakeholders, of which 100 are women.

The capacity building support of the project has covered among other things the use, facilitation and day-to-day management of the web based MRV platform, understanding the IPCC guidelines and the GHG inventory tool (IPCC 2006) and data collection and processing with SPSS software and online tools such as Kobo Toolbox.
