5 December 2019, Kigali, Rwanda:  GGGI with partner Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA) initiated the capacity building program to the government officials on the approved Rwanda Green Building Minimum Compliance System and the recently developed excel-based green building minimum compliance templates. The capacity building is in line with the implementation of the Green Building Minimum Compliance System by RHA supported by GGGI and partners.

Participants of the training included government officials representing City of Kigali (COK) ,One Stop Centre (OSC), Gasabo District OSC, RHA staff from the Building Regulations Inspection and Audits (BRIA) Division and GGGI District Technical Assistants from the secondary cities of Rwanda.

The participants were provided with an in-depth overview on the applicability and compliance requirements of the 29 Green Building indicators that are defined in the minimum compliance system and received training on the working modalities and benefits of the excel-based green building templates in implementing the minimum compliance system. The development of excel-based templates is an initiative of GGGI and is aligned with the implementation plan of the green building minimum compliance system. The participants received an overview on how the excel-based templates support the building professionals in documenting green building information, conduct green building indicator calculations where applicable, compliance requirements of system and understood how they can assess the green building applications by using the templates.

For GGGI and its government partner RHA, this capacity building session is an introduction to upcoming nationwide training programme dissemination to build the capacities of building design and construction professionals, government personnel involved in building permitting and inspection, and construction industry stakeholders to implement the minimum compliance system. Going forward, GGGI will continue to support partner RHA in the implementation of the green building minimum compliance system by providing technical support to the green building training programs including dissemination of the excel-based templates.
